June 1st will mark the start of a new collaborative initiative for Enlace. Community Health, an organization with more than 25 years of experience, will begin using Enlace Chicago facilities to bring health care services to Little Village completely free of charge.
Laura Starr, Director of External Affairs for Community Health, explained that the pandemic helped them to realize how much more frequently patients attend their appointments when they are located close to home – 2021 marked the year they established the first telehealth site in Belmont Cragin, in partnership with Onward House. Community Health's headquarters are located in Humboldt Park, a long way from Little Village.
Our Community Health Team has worked with Community Health for many years, referring members of the community for free medical care. Community Health provides medical services to people over the age of 18 who do not have any type of health insurance coverage.
Every Wednesday and Saturday, Community Health will be offering services at our main office, located at 2759 S. Harding Avenue. They will be there on Wednesdays from 11 am to 7 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. Only those who have an appointment and have registered as patients prior to their appointment will be seen. Registration will take place every Wednesday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and from 5 pm to 6:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 11 am.
How will this initiative work?
Every Wednesday and Saturday, a Medical Assistant from Community Health will be present to take vital signs and labs and to connect patients with medical providers through private tele-appointments. Community Health staff will also fill prescriptions during clinic hours. Community Health works with volunteer medical professionals who can provide services in 20 specialties, including vision and dentistry – patients who need specialist appointments will be referred to Community Health headquarters, located at 2611 W. Chicago Ave.
The clinic will not be open on Saturdays that fall during a holiday weekend, such as Labor Day weekend.
