This past Monday, August 28th, the Illinois Governor, Bruce Rauner, finally signed the TRUST Act, a landmark legislation sponsored by Senator John Cullerton and Representatives Welch and Hernandez. The TRUST Act was pushed by many community organizations and thousands of Illinois residents to make the state a safe one for immigrant communities. The signing took place at Mi Tierra Restaurant in La Villlita and witnessed by hundreds of community members who worked hard on the campaign for the TRUST Act to become a reality in our state.
The TRUST ACT seeks to protect and build trust between law enforcement agencies and immigrant communities by limiting local police involvement in federal immigration enforcement. For more information about the TRUST Act, click here
