Artist Bio: Ricardo Gonzalez is an artist born in Chicago and raised in Blue Island, Illinois. Gonzalez graduated with his MFA in December 2015 from Kendall College of Art and Design and a BFA from the American Academy of Art in 2005. "My work is focused on the contemporary Mexican-American identity. I create work that celebrates Chicano or Post-Chicano art. Topics that are explored within my artwork include Chicano culture, identity, wonder, celebration, contradiction, criticism, tropes and popular iconography. My artwork is fascinated by my ethnicity but is also concerned with the adversity surrounding it. " About the painting: The painting will look like an urban landscape painting of La Villita. It will combine pop art with the iconic Arch on 26th Street! This will be a fun painting that reflects a neighborhood filled with Dreamers. All event proceeds go to support the Dreamers Unidos Scholarship Fund: The Dreamers Unidos Scholarship is an initiative from Little Village community residents, Enlace Chicago staff volunteers and interested community members providing scholarships to Farragut Career Academy and Little Village Lawndale High School Campus graduating seniors. Funds are raised through various community events and thanks to the support from our local artists. All funds raised towards this scholarship go directly to the students and are tax-deductible donations. Two tuition scholarships ($1000/ea) and two book scholarships ($500/ea) will be awarded in the scholarship cycle beginning Spring 2016.
